Property Tax
A bill to eliminate school property taxes could see action in the State Senate this spring, even though a similar measure failed to gain traction in the house. WHLM's Cathy Clark reports the house has approved a targeted approach that would leave the decision up to school districts on whether to keep, reduce or replace their property taxes. But the sponsor of a senate plan says there's bipartisan backing in his chamber for a bill to replace the school property tax with higher sales and personal income taxes. That measure has drawn opposition from the business community, schools and advocates for the poor.

At issue, according to the latest "State of Cancer Care in America" study, is an oncology workforce and small community practices that cannot keep up with the growing patient population.
