Weekend Events

A reminder for this weekend that Montour County has issued an outdoor burn ban. A first offense carries a fine of $100. The ban will be in effect for 30 days.

 

It's Block Party weekend on and around the campus of Bloomsburg University. If you are driving through the campus and student housing areas be cautious and aware of pdestrians - there are certain to be lots of students out walking around this weekend. 

 

Tickets are still on sale for this evening's Taming Of The Brew 2014 at the Caldwell Consistory in downtown Bloomsburg. Come sample regional microbrews, good food, and live music from 7 - 11 PM. Tickets are $75 each. You can order online at BTE's website under Our Partners at the top of the page.

 

The Bloomsburg Public Library’s 125th birthday party continues this morning with another Coffeehouse, from 10 - 11:30 AM. This month, the Friends of the Library invite you to help celebrate the fifth year of the “Golden Friends,” the Library’s outreach program to seniors in assisted living and nursing homes. Enjoy entertainment and refreshments at the library on Market Street, and consider becoming a Friend yourself.

 

The Penn State Master Gardeners of Columbia County will be holding a Spring Into Gardening festival today at the Columbia County Ag Services Building on Sawmill Road in Bloomsburg. Presentations will include talks on tomato gardening, water gardening, good vs bad bugs, silent auctions, garden tours and more. Cost is $10 for the day. The program runs from 8:30 AM - 3 PM. Swing by Bear Chrysler Dodge Jeep on Route 11 in Berwick this morning for a meet and greet with local Olympian Jason Terdiman. From 9 AM - 2 PM, Jason will be on hand to sign autographs and talk about his experiences as an Olympic athlete. Also check out the Olympic suits and real luge sled. A portion of all vehicle sales during the event at Bear CDJ will go toward the Terdiman Fund.

 

Mostly Mutts no-kill animal shelter is holding a doggie biscuit hunt today from 11 AM - 2 PM at Sunlight Feed and Pet Supply on Route 11 east of Bloomsburg. All dogs participating must be on a leash and up-to-date on their shots. There will be goodie bags for every dog and prizes. A $5 donation for the event is suggested. The Buckhorn Fire Company on Firehall road is hosting the second annual Jonathan's Journey craft and vendor fair today from 10 AM - 4 PM. Come check out lots of local vendors and take part in the chineese auction. All proceeds will benefit the March of Dimes.

 

MC Federal Credit Union is accepting donations on behalf of the Dissinger family, who tragically lost three young boys in a house fire on April 4th. If you would like to help, donations came be made to the Dissinger Family Loss Donation Fund at any branch of MC Federal Credit Union, mailed to their main branch at 230 Walnut Street in Danville, or made by phone, by calling 570-275-6155. 

 

Bethany United Methodist Church in Berwick is holding a clothing giveaway this morning from 9 AM - Noon. There will be clothing for all ages. The church is at 116 Summerhill Avenue in Berwick.

 

Faith Assembly of God in Hazle Township is holding their annual Easter EGG-Stravaganza this morning at the church on Fox Manor Road. There will be games, crafts, prizes, and a hunt for over 10,000 Easter eggs - and it's all free! Make sure to bring an empty basket or bag. Suppourt the Bloomsburg Skate Park this Sunday and come out from 8 - 10 AM for a flapjack fundraiser at Applebees on route 11 in Bloomsburg. Cost is $7 for adults or $4.50 for kids 5 and under. 

 

Town Hill United Methodist Church in Shicksinny is hosting "Cinderella's Closet" this Sunday at the church at 417 Town Hill Road. The sale of prom and other dresses will run from Noon-7PM. Call 570-864-2401 for more information.

 

The Benton British Car Club is meeting at 3PM this Sunday afternoon at Strevig's Family Restaraunt on Route 487 in Benton. Anyone who owns a British-made car is welcome to attend.

 

Toddler Time is back at the Bloomsburg Public Library this Monday morning. Bring your kids ages 18 months to 3 years old at 9:15 AM for twenty minutes of stories, music, movement, and fun! All children must be accompanied by and adult. The library is on Market Street in downtown Bloomsburg.
