United Water

The overnight work to replace a valve on an 8 inch in diameter water main at the corner of East and Main Streets went off without a hitch. The work began before dawn Thursday... and by 9 O'clock the job to replace the several hundred pound valve had been completed more smoothly than their first valve replacement earlier this week. It was Tuesday morning... Manbeck said the crew had a pipe break in the trench. Before proceeding with the work... the area had to be cleared of water.


David Millard

When the legislature ended it's session at the end of June... there was still a lot of times to be decided upon.... such as legislation dealing with transportation issues. However, don't fret... according to State Representative David Millard of Berwick. It could be taken care of in short order. Right now, lawmakers are working behind the scenes to find funding for any of the transportation bill versions which may spring up this fall.


DUI Checkpoints

It is expected to be a busy weekend for a team of cops who check for suspected DUI drivers in Columbia and Montour Counties. Checkpoint Coordinator... Sgt. Leonard Rogutski from the Bloomsburg Police Department says weekend dates are selected at random. If you plan on using Route 11, 487 and 42 in Columbia County... as well as Route 54 in Montour County after sunset... you might run into a DUI checkpoint.


Hunlock Creek Fire

A Hunlock Creek man is dead... after a fire broke out at his home on Hartman Road in Hunlock Township Thursday afternoon. The victim is being identified by family members as Kent Brace. The fire was first spotted when it broke through the back of the two story home. There is a published report that Mr. Brace was suffering from terminal cancer. Now... a state police fire marshal will try and figure out what caused Thursday's fire in Hunlock Township.


Hayes Hotel

History was auctioned off in Berwick late Wednesday afternoon. An auctioneer from D. Owen Grove Auctions selling the contents which used to be part of the now – closed Hayes Hotel in the 500 block of LaSalle Street. Columbia County Redevelopment Authority director Rich Kisner says an asbestos abatement project gets underway... with the building eventually to be leveled. The lot to be filled with compacted dirt and grass seed planted until a decision is made what to build on the site.


Bloomsburg Nationals

The Bloomsburg Nationals are headed to town... powered by Carlisle Events... and it take place the weekend of August 9th. The company's Mike Garland says they expect a large turnout of classic car owners strutting their stuff. Last year, an estimated 800 cars were on the show field... and this time Garland said up to a thousand cars are expected. No bull riding this year... just pure automotive events at this year's Bloomsburg Nationals getting underway August 9th.


Go Joe

Bloomsburg made Channel 16's video clips last night... when morning meteorologist Joe Snedeker peddled through the area Wednesday in his journey to raise money for the St. Joseph's Center in Scranton. During a quick stop at the Caldwell Consistory... Joe says he trains for the long haul by riding about a hundred miles a week. Snedeker spent last night in Mifflinburg... and will wrap his Thursday in Dushore... in Sullivan County. He'll peddle into the St. Joseph's Center Friday.... concluding his five day fund raising effort.


Union Twp Fire

Volunteer firemen from six different companies were called out late Wednesday night to battle a two alarm garage fire. The first alarm was sounded around 10 O'clock for the fire in Union Township... along Trailing Pine Road near Shickshinny. It quickly escalated into a two alarm blaze. One fire chief said the blaze doesn't appear to be suspicions.


Shickshinny Fire Folo

Still no cause of a blaze that ripped through a Shickshinny home early Wednesday morning. Kimberly and Derek Smith lost just about everything they had... including 11 Chihuahuas... when fire swept through their double block home on West Butler Street. The Smith's live on one side... while Kimberly’s mother, Linda Huffman, lives on the other... and that's where the fire is believed to have started. Ms. Huffman was on vacation... and many of the dogs that died belonged to her. No one was injured in that stubborn early Wednesday Morning fire.


Hotel Sterling

After years of trying to save it... crews will begin demolishing the Hotel Sterling in Wilkes – Barre. The fate of the building has been tossed around for years with the city paying 419 – thousand dollars to get rid of it. It won't come down overnight... it will take about two months for the building to be demolished... and the site it sits on.... leveled.
