Four days of pretty good weather for this year's Bloomsburg Fair has translated to folks coming through the turnstiles. That's happening despite an eight dollar entrance fee... up three bucks from the 2010 fair. Fair Association President Paul Reichart says visitors get a pretty good bang for the buck.... such as when it comes to free entertainment... plus the exhibits and the experience. Meantime, Fair officials announcing Tuesday's attendance was 38,700... a boost of 7,000 people over the same day in 2010.
Geisinger Life / Tom Marino
The congressman who represents Montour and Northumberland County got a first hand look at a program for seniors run by Geisinger Health System. Life Geisinger in Kulpmont provides alternatives to nursing home living. Rep. Tom Marino says seniors in a four county area... including Columbia... have a pretty good place to go to during the day... and get the required health care they need. Funding for the program comes from the federal and state governments... with Geisinger working closely with senior programs in Columbia... Montour... Northumberland and Schuylkill Counties.
Getting exercise... and at the same time helping out a Mifflinville non – profit clinic is on tap for Sunday. The group running the Columbia County Volunteers in Medicine is holding a walk around the track at the Berwick High School. It's designed to raise money for the clinic's on going operations.... so says the organization's Bette Grey. The clinic on Mifflinville's main street is hoping to raise an estimated $5,000 in order to keep their operation afloat.
State police at Laporte are investigating thousands of dollars worth of damage caused to equipment at a natural gas pipeline work site in in Sullivan County. Investigators say someone this week... started an excavator... and proceeded to damage three other excavators and two side booms. The damage could total $350,000. The equipment is used for gas pipeline construction... and is owned by Precision Pipeline of Wisconsin. If you have information about the crime... call State Police at Laporte.
State Representative Karen Bobak says she plans to hold satellite office hours Wednesday at the Shickshinny Senior Center. Ms. Boback... or a representative... will try and answer questions dealing with state issues. The 117th District Republican represents Benton and Benton Township in Columbia County... as well as Luzerne and Wyoming Counties.
Grief counselors will be at some Hazleton schools Wednesday to talk to students about the death of a 13 – year old boy... who took his own life this week in a Church Street home. He is the second teen in as many days to die by their own hand. Overall... Four teens in Luzerne County have died this month. It's prompting school officials and police to try and do something the problem.
It appears the former Hotel Sterling in Wilkes – Barre may soon meet the wrecking ball. County Council approving legislation last night to spend up to $233,000 to demolish the hotel... condemned a year ago. That money would be added to an estimated $260,000 the City of Wilkes – Barre already has in the bank. No word yet when the demolition will take place.
Home Invasion Suspects
Police in Nanticoke are searching for two men wanted in a home invasion. The incident taking place at a home on West Noble Street in Nanticoke last week. The pair allegedly beating 50 – year old Edward Ryan... and his 45 – year old wife, Paula... then taking prescription drugs and cash.

The Berwick High School football team will be trying to bounce back from their first loss of the season when they play at Selinsgrove on Friday night. The Seals are unbeaten, but their head coach, Dave Hess, is very concerned with Berwick's offense. Berwick at Selinsgrove kicks off Friday night at 7 O'clock.
