Southern Columbia Tigers Football Preview 2016

Southern Columbia lost 25 seniors form the 2015 unbeaten state championship team including three all state performers. Only four starters return on offense and two on defense. Southern Columbia, however, never rebuilds, and the Tigers should be strong again.

Among the returners are two all state performers in Hunter Thomas and Cam Young. Thomas rushed for a team high 1593 yards and 25 touchdowns last season. He also led the team with 36 receptions. Young caught 20 passes as a side receiver and made all state as a defensive back with his 8 interceptions.

The Tigers running attack will be led by Thomas who will be joined by fullback Nic Fetterman who rushed for 388 yards in a backup role in 2015 along with junior Tom Manley and freshman Gage Garcia. Taking over for all state quarterback Nick Becker will be a very talented sophomore transfer- Stone Hollenbach. Up front on both sides of the football the Tigers have experience in Andrew Bell and Troy Donlan  along with good prospects in Oak Six, Tyler Bendis, and Jeff Cox.

As many a 12 very talented freshmen combined with a number of players who saw considerable action as backups last season, should make Southern Columbia a force to be reckoned with in 2016. The Tigers will once again be contenders in Division II of the Heartland Conference as well as District 4 Class AA and hope to make another strong post season run. Head Coach Jim Roth enters the season with 380 career wins- fourth all time in Pennsylvania.
